Registering your business is what lets a US number send text messages. You fill in an 11 step form in your settings, pay a one time $49 carrier fee, and wait for the US carriers to review it. Approval usually takes a week or two. Calls work without any of this.

Before you start

  • Your identity verified first, since brand registration is not available until it is. See Verify your identity.
  • Owner access. Only the workspace owner can register the business.
  • Your official business paperwork to hand, including your registered legal name, business address, and tax or company registration number.
  • A privacy policy published on your website that covers text messaging consent.
  • Where it happens: Settings, then Trust Center, then Register Brand.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings, then Trust Center, then Register Brand.
  2. Enter your business details, including your registration number and the country that issued it.
  3. Enter the details exactly as they appear on your tax documents. An approximate match is the most common reason a registration is rejected.
  4. Add the extra business details carriers ask for, including business type and industry.
  5. Add a point of contact, with their name, job title, and business email.
  6. Describe how your business will use text messaging.
  7. Add at least two real examples of the messages you intend to send.
  8. Confirm your privacy policy covers text messaging opt in and consent data.
  9. Say how you collect consent from the people you will text.
  10. Review the consent requirements and the forbidden message topics.
  11. Confirm the $49 fee and pay. Your registration is submitted to the carriers.
You can stop part way through. Your answers are kept as a draft, so a registration that needs a document you do not have to hand can be picked up later.

You will know it worked when

  • Register Brand shows your registration as submitted, with its status.
  • The status moves to approved, usually within a week or two.
  • Texting can be switched on for your number once the status is approved.

How long approval takes

Approval usually takes a week or two from the day you submit. The review is done by the US carriers rather than by Brilo, so the timing is theirs and there is no way to pay for a faster decision. Plan around two weeks rather than two days. If your launch depends on texting, submit the registration at the start of the work rather than the end, because it is the one step in a Brilo setup that cannot be completed in an afternoon. A registration that is rejected can be corrected and resubmitted, and the clock starts again on the new submission. That is why an exact match to your paperwork in steps 2 and 3 is worth the extra care: the cost of a typo is another week or two, not another five minutes.

What the $49 covers

The $49 is a one time carrier review and setup fee, charged when you submit. US carriers mandate the review and the fee, and Brilo passes it through to the carrier review partners rather than keeping it. It is charged per registration, not per month and not per number. Numbers you buy later are covered by the same approved registration.

What else you can do here

If it did not work

Register Brand is not in my settings. Check that your identity is verified, and that you are signed in as the workspace owner. See Verify your identity. My registration was rejected. The usual cause is business details that do not match your official paperwork exactly, including punctuation in the legal name and the registered address rather than a trading address. Correct the details and submit again. My registration is approved but texts still do not send. Texting is switched on per number, so an approved registration does not switch it on for you. See Text messages. It has been longer than two weeks. Contact support@brilo.ai with your workspace name, and send the registration status shown in Register Brand.

FAQ

Usually a week or two from the day you submit. The US carriers do the review, not Brilo, so the timing is theirs and there is no paid option to speed it up. Plan around two weeks if your launch depends on texting.
No. Calls work without any registration, and so does email. Registration is only required to send text messages to US numbers, so a business that only answers the phone can skip it entirely.
$49, charged once when you submit. It is a carrier review and setup fee that US carriers require, and Brilo passes it to the carrier review partners. It is not monthly, and it is not per phone number.
Two usual reasons: your identity is not verified yet, which has to come first, or you are not signed in as the workspace owner. Only the owner can register the business. See Verify your identity.
No. Messages sent from an unregistered US number are not delivered by the carriers, and the failure is quiet rather than an obvious error. Wait for approval. Calls carry on as normal throughout the review.
You can correct it and submit again, and the review starts over, so allow another week or two. The most common cause is business details that do not match your official paperwork exactly, including the legal name and the registered address.
No. One approved registration covers your workspace, so numbers you buy later can text without registering again. Switch texting on for each new number. See Text messages.
No. Business registration is a US carrier requirement. Numbers in other countries have their own local rules for business texting, so check what applies where your number is before you rely on it.
