# Supported languages

> Every language a Brilo agent can speak and understand, including Hindi, Spanish, and nine Indian languages, and how availability depends on your region.

Your agent can speak and understand 21 languages, including English, Spanish, Hindi, and nine
Indian languages. You pick one language per agent. Which languages you can actually choose depends
on the voices available in your region, so the list in your dashboard may be shorter than the list
below.

## Languages your agent can speak and understand

Each language here is one your agent can both speak and understand on calls, texts, and email.
Your agent uses one language at a time, set when you create it and changeable afterwards.

## Answering callers in several languages

Workspaces in India have an extra option called **Multilingual**. An agent set to Multilingual
starts in English and follows the caller when they switch, so a caller who begins in English and
moves into Telugu or Hindi is answered in the language they are speaking.

Outside India, an agent speaks the one language you set. If you serve callers in two languages,
the usual approach is one agent per language, each on its own phone number.

## What is not supported

* **Chinese, Korean, Polish, Swedish, and Turkish** are not available.
* **Switching language mid call is limited to the Multilingual option** described above, which is
  available in India only.
* **A language with no voice in your region** does not appear in your dashboard even though it is
  listed above. If a language you need is missing, contact
  [support@brilo.ai](mailto:support@brilo.ai) and say which region you are in.

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Does Brilo support Spanish?">
    Yes, in both Castilian and Mexican Spanish, and your agent both speaks and understands it.
    Set it when you create your agent or change it later in your agent's settings. Write your
    agent's instructions in Spanish too, so its wording matches the language it speaks.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does Brilo support Hindi and other Indian languages?">
    Yes. Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, and Odia
    are all supported. Workspaces in India also get the Multilingual option, where your agent
    starts in English and follows the caller when they change language.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can my agent switch language during a call?">
    Only with the Multilingual option, which is available to workspaces in India. Anywhere else,
    an agent speaks the single language you set. To serve two languages, run one agent per
    language on separate numbers.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why is my language missing from the list?">
    A language only appears once there is a voice for it in your region. That is deliberate:
    showing a language Brilo could not actually speak to your callers would be misleading. Contact
    support with the language and your region and we will tell you whether a voice is coming.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does my uploaded material need to be in the same language?">
    It helps, but it is not required. Your agent can answer in its own language from material
    written in another, though it does this more reliably when both match. Prices, opening hours,
    and names carry across languages without trouble.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does the language I choose change what I pay?">
    No. Every language costs the same, and your call minutes are counted the same way whichever
    language your agent speaks. See [Plans and what they include](/supported/plans).
