# What is Brilo

> Brilo answers your calls, texts, and email with an AI agent you set up in minutes. Start here to see what it does and how to begin.

Brilo gives your business an agent that answers calls, texts, and email, books appointments, and
follows up with customers. You set it up yourself in the dashboard, with no code and no phone
company involved, and you can hear it answer within about fifteen minutes.

## What Brilo does for you

Your agent picks up when you cannot: after hours, during a rush, or while you are with a customer.
It answers questions from your own material, does real work like booking into your calendar, and
hands the call to a person when that is the right thing to do.

Every call is written down, summarised, and scored, so you can see what your customers actually
ask for rather than guessing.

## What you need to get started

* **An account.** The Free plan includes 10 call minutes and one agent, which is enough to build an
  agent and hear it answer.
* **About fifteen minutes.** That is enough to create an agent, teach it the basics, and take a
  test call.
* **A phone number, eventually.** You do not need one to start. Talk to your agent in your browser
  first, then buy a number or keep the one you already have.
* **No developer.** Setting up an agent needs nobody technical. A few advanced parts do, and they
  are marked as such throughout. See [Do I need a developer](/start/do-i-need-a-developer).

## Where to go next

Three doors, depending on how you like to learn:

* **Just build one.** [Answer your first call](/quickstart) walks you from nothing to a live call in
  about fifteen minutes.
* **Understand it first.** [How Brilo works](/how-brilo-works) explains the five ideas behind the
  product in plain language.
* **Check it fits.** [What your agent can do](/supported/what-your-agent-can-do) is the honest list
  of what it can and cannot do, and [Plans](/supported/plans) is what each plan includes.

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What do I need to get started with Brilo?">
    An account and about fifteen minutes. You do not need a phone number, a developer, or a phone
    company account. The Free plan gives you 10 call minutes and one agent, which is enough to build
    an agent and hear it answer before you pay anything.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do I need a developer to set up Brilo?">
    No. Creating an agent, teaching it about your business, connecting a calendar, and going live
    are all done in the dashboard. Custom actions, webhooks, and the API need someone technical for
    about an hour each. See [Do I need a developer](/start/do-i-need-a-developer).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can Brilo answer texts and email as well as calls?">
    Yes. One agent can answer phone calls, text messages, email, and calls from a button on your
    website. Email needs the Pro plan or above. Texts need a number with texting switched on. See
    [Ways people can reach your agent](/channels/overview).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do I need a phone number before I sign up?">
    No. You can talk to your agent in your browser with no number at all. When you are ready for
    real callers, buy a number from Brilo in about two minutes, or keep the number your customers
    already know. See [Use your existing number](/phone-numbers/use-your-existing-number).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How long does it take to get my first agent answering calls?">
    About fifteen minutes to a working agent you can call yourself. Getting it genuinely good takes
    a few days of listening to real calls and adjusting, which is what
    [Your first week](/start/your-first-week) is for.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I try Brilo before I pay?">
    Yes. The Free plan includes 10 call minutes and one agent, with no card needed to build and test
    an agent. It cannot make outbound calls and does not include a phone number. See
    [Plans and what they include](/supported/plans).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Will my callers know they are talking to an AI?">
    Most callers work it out, and the agents that go down best are the ones that do not pretend
    otherwise. You control exactly what your agent says about itself in its instructions, including
    whether it states it is an AI when asked. See
    [Write what your agent says](/agents/write-what-your-agent-says).
